After growing a comfortable cushion for himself, Scott Piercy was able to finish the job Sunday at the Barbasol Championship. Piercy closed in 6-under 65 for a three-stroke victory and his third PGA Tour title.
Piercy, 36, set up his victory with birdies on his first two holes, including 57-foot birdie putt on the second hole at Grand National’s Lake Course. He made six more birdies Sunday en route to ending a winless drought that dated to the 2012 Canadian Open. He began the final round tied for the lead with Ricky Barnes.
Piercy began the season on a major medical extension after surgery on his right arm last year.
Birmingham native Will Wilcox was second after a 67.
Barnes, University of Alabama junior Robby Shelton and South Korea’s Whee Kim tied for third at 14 under.
The round was delayed 1 hour, 20 minutes because of rain and lightning.
